The Future of OVERKILL

Greetings! This development log is about the most recent update, which is v0.1.0, and the future of OVERKILL. Unfortunately, the project will not continue for various reasons. These reasons are both related to the current composition and motivation of the team and me, the lead developer and designer of OVERKILL.

One reason is, although our team of 4 consists of very talented people, I feel like we have lost our motivation, and it won't come back since we don't have a consistent resource of it such as getting paid. Everyone in the team, including myself, has started developing OVERKILL to have some experience in certain fields of game development, and to have a product in the end that we are proud of; which, I think, we have achieved. I believe it was a beautiful journey for us all!

Moreover, from my perspective, the programming side of things is also problematic. When I have started developing OVERKILL, without a team, I was experimenting with stuff, then it became a playable product unexpectedly. During the phases of experimenting, the systems that I have designed and the code that I have written were not scalable, which I acknowledged after gathering a team and spending more time on the project.

To sum up, the motivation drivers in the team and the code of OVERKILL not being scalable are the main reasons that the project will not continue. Although that the current project won't continue, OVERKILL someday might rise from its ashes as a much more polished and playable product. Since I have played OVERKILL countless times and I still enjoy it, as the lead developer and designer of the game, I can say that the chance of OVERKILL rising from its ashes is pretty high...

 

Version v0.1.0

Apart from the future of OVERKILL, this development log is also about the latest update of OVERKILL as I have mentioned! In this version, there is a new dodge mechanic, and an implemented save system considering the gameplay. Other than that, in terms of assets, our talented musician has replaced the background music tracks of the game with new ones! All the new audio tracks were intended for the release of the game, but since there won't be another release for OVERKILL, we have decided to show them off!

The new version may contain certain bugs since it has not been tested properly, but I assume that they won't break the game and make it unplayable. If that becomes the case, you can still download the previous version and enjoy the game since the main mechanics work perfectly there!

Thanks to everyone who has contributed to the development of OVERKILL with feedback and kind words! Proper feedback from you guys has added a lot to the game in terms of game design and accessibility!
